Captain Kendrick
Captain Kendrick is an accomplished sailor with a deep passion for exploration, adventure, and life at sea. Most recently, he completed a solo transatlantic crossing from Florida to Scotland aboard Spindrift, his Southern Cross 35—a major milestone in his lifelong dream of sailing solo around the world. Now taking a brief pause from that pursuit, Kendrick is excited to return to the Caribbean for an unforgettable charter season.
A native of California, Kendrick grew up racing dinghies and instructing sailors from a young age, including adaptive sailing for individuals with disabilities. He also served as a volunteer Watch Leader aboard tall ships in Canada—an early introduction to leadership and seamanship that would set the tone for his career. With over 20 years of experience teaching sailing at all levels—from beginner dinghy sailing to offshore cruising—he brings both expertise and patience to every voyage.
Kendrick earned his sea legs running charters in California’s Channel Islands before working several seasons in the British Virgin Islands. His love for island life is matched by his enthusiasm for exploration—whether it’s discovering hidden coves, hiking lush island trails, scuba diving vibrant reefs, or tracing the historic routes once sailed by pirates evading the Royal Navy.
An avid traveler and reader, Kendrick has a special love for remote and wild places. Personal highlights include backpacking the Isle of Skye, snorkeling with sharks in Tahiti, and most recently, sailing through the Western Isles of Scotland.
For Kendrick, nothing compares to dropping anchor in a quiet bay, sharing stories and laughter as the sun sets over the sea. With a spirit of adventure and a deep respect for the ocean, he invites every guest aboard to experience the magic of sailing and the timeless charm of the Caribbean.
Chef Mia
Chef Mia brings a beautiful balance of culinary expertise and a deep love for the ocean to every charter experience. Her journey to becoming a yacht chef has been shaped by two lifelong passions: the professional kitchens where she trained and the sailing adventures that have taken her across oceans.
Mia began her culinary career as the sole cook in a busy children’s nursery, preparing nutritious, balanced meals for up to 40 children daily. This role honed her ability to meet a wide range of dietary needs—including allergies, intolerances, and specific preferences—with care, creativity, and flexibility. It was here she developed a foundational skill that remains a hallmark of her cooking today: crafting menus that are both accommodating and inspired.
She later earned her SVQ Level 4 in Professional Cookery while working in award-winning restaurants, where she fine-tuned her attention to detail, flavor, and presentation. These years instilled a love for high-quality cooking and the joy of delighting others through food.
Sailing, however, has always been in Mia’s blood. As a child, she sailed halfway around the world with her family—an experience that sparked a lifelong love for the sea. In recent years, she has logged more than 6,000 nautical miles aboard both monohulls and catamarans, sailing from South Africa to the Caribbean. Along the way, she has mastered the art of provisioning in remote locations, using local ingredients creatively, and preparing comforting, flavorful meals even in the most challenging conditions.
For Mia, cooking on a yacht is about more than just food—it’s about creating unforgettable moments. Whether it’s a relaxed breakfast at anchor, vibrant sharing plates after a swim, or a beautifully plated dinner under the stars, she takes pride in tailoring every dish to the guests’ tastes and needs. Her thoughtful approach ensures that each meal becomes a highlight of the day.
When she’s not in the galley, Mia enjoys being on deck, hiking ashore, or unwinding with good music and a book. Her calm presence, passion for service, and love of both land and sea make her an exceptional addition to any charter.
With Chef Mia on board, guests can expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere and cuisine that nourishes the body and soul—one delicious, memorable meal at a time

Kendrick and Mia, tho I’d past week was a trip for healing and reflection having lost the love of my life this year. We loved our BVI trips together and so I was able to honour my guy on this trip. Thank you for helping me with special touches like limoncello and Reese’s peanut butter ice cream. So professional. So kind. Such an epic adventure - Anegada, the Bitter End, Soggy Dollar, Willy T’s and dancing at Foxy’s were a blast. Turtles, dolphins, rays and tons of snorkelling - plus evening dances on the patio - all were complemented by phenomenal sunrises and sunsets! The meals were remarkable - so full!
Thanks for a wonderful adventure!

Our time on board Perpetual Blue with Captain Kendrick and Chef Mia was nothing short of extraordinary. As a boating family, a catamaran like this has always been a dream of ours and this experience didn’t just meet that dream, it exceeded it in every possible way!
Chef Mia is truly exceptional. Her vegetarian cuisine was creative, thoughtful and absolutely delicious. It was perfectly tailored to our preferences and needs. Every meal felt special - beautifully prepared, nourishing and full of flavour! It was such a gift to feel completely cared for and to enjoy the food that was simply indulgent and artistic!
Captain Kendrick is the kind of captain that you hope for but rarely find - skilled, calm, fun and up for any adventure. From epic days on the water to awesome snorkelling spots to one of our favourite ever: Christmas carolling by dinghy, boat to boat, spreading joy across the bay we were anchored in. It was magical, spontaneous and unforgettable - exactly the kind of moment that turns a vacation into a lifelong memory!
Together, Kendrick and Mia created an atmosphere that was warm, joyful and effortlessly memorable. We had the vacation of our lives and we will never forget the incredible time we shared on Perpetual Blue. This experience will stay with our family forever!
Best wishes,

I’d like to send my praise for Jay Jay and Josiah; they were both outstanding. Our days aboard the boat counted as one of the best holidays I’ve taken, and both played a huge part in that. It was beyond wonderful to not have to think or make one decision for over 5 days, a true treat. Jay Jay piloted the boat calmly and skillfully, and Josiah: his meals were heavenly. We all reverted back to childhood and waited like children to be served his delicious meals, and we were so grateful for the opportunity to do so for that small space in our lives.
I know that I will recall those perfect days on the water: swimming, snorkeling, bare feet, and being exclusively outdoors. I will dream of my next trip.

We had a fabulous week on Perpetual Blue. We enjoyed the sun, snorkeling, and the scenery. Captain JJ was expert at charting our course through the islands. We felt safe and were incredibly well cared for throughout the trip. Chef Josiah produced five star meals. Each meal was its own version of exquisite. I highly recommend Perpetual Blue if you are considering a charter in the beautiful Virgin Islands. Both you and Josiah were hard working, friendly and a delight to be with.
Thank you for taking such good care of us! 💕

We had the MOST AMAZING time ever on our charter!! Dylan and Ameda were more than we could have ever hoped for!! My sister-in-law and I were crying as we said goodbye because they had become family to all of us. We both continue to talk to them since we have returned home also! The islands we went to were unbelievable and all the amazing adventures we did were amazing! They made Christmas for our kids (and us) one of the best!! We experienced some mechanical issues with the boat and Dylan and Ameda handled it so well. We had to spend the night on the dock one of the nights so a mechanic could work on the boat. Dylan had all of that arranged and worked around it to make plans for us on the island we were on.
We have shared our experience with so many of our family and friends and have recommended Charter Smarter to all! Thank you for providing an easy booking, great communication through the planning process, and overall amazing vacation!! We all are ready to come back and we want Dylan and Ameda again!! 😊
