Growing up in the Austrian Alps, Mario Merl developed a passion for sport through Nordic Combined skiing, beginning at the age of six. The discipline, determination, and competitive mindset he gained continue to shape his professional approach today. He holds a Master’s degree in Finance and further expanded his expertise by studying Naval Architecture during his yachting career. Since 2001, Mario has worked aboard some of the world’s most prestigious superyachts. With over two decades of industry experience, he is known for delivering exceptional guest experiences, strong leadership, and outstanding service. Passionate about the sea, Mario enjoys sharing remarkable destinations and creating unforgettable journeys alongside his dedicated and professional crew. Daniel is from Berlin, Germany, and developed his love for the sea while sailing the Baltic Sea with his family. After a decade competing on the German national cycling team and studying finance and foreign trade, he began his maritime career on cruise ships in 2009 before joining the yachting industry in 2015. He has since cruised extensively throughout the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Caribbean. Calm and professional, Daniel enjoys life at sea and values creating safe, enjoyable experiences for guests and crew. Alejandro is an Argentinian chef whose passion for food and travel has shaped an international culinary career. After moving to Europe in 2015, he spent four years in Germany refining his skills before entering the yachting industry in 2020. Since then, he has worked aboard yachts across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, creating exceptional dining experiences for guests. Away from the galley, he enjoys exploring new destinations and cultures. He remains closely connected to Argentina, where he spends time on his farm raising sheep and developing agricultural projects. Mykola grew up in Ukraine and has spent recent years living in Romania with his wife and their two children, aged 7 and 9. He has a Master's degree in electrical engineering from National Shipbuilding University and has more than 18 years of experience at sea working on various types of vessels as well as repair work in dry docks and shipyards. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, whether that’s hiking and spending time in nature or around horses and equestrian sports Originally from Odesa, Ukraine, Vasyl studied Marine Engineering at Odessa University before beginning his career at sea at just 18 years old. Inspired by a lifelong love of the water and sailing, he pursued a career in superyacht engineering, where he has developed extensive technical expertise and a reputation for reliability. His dedication and problem-solving skills ensure all onboard systems operate seamlessly, providing guests with a safe and comfortable experience. In his free time, Vasyl enjoys hiking, diving, attending concerts, and exploring new destinations. He takes great pride in his work and is committed to delivering exceptional support and memorable experiences aboard M/Y Sairu. A former professional football player, he has had the privilege of playing alongside some of the world’s top talent, traveling globally and creating unforgettable experiences while connecting with incredible people. Having grown up internationally, he is highly adaptable and comfortable in any environment. He enjoys an active lifestyle and friendly competition, whether it’s football, paddel, tennis, or golf (playing off a 6 handicap). An adrenaline enthusiast, he is always up for exciting challenges. He brings great energy, a positive mindset, and a fun, easygoing vibe to every charter, always ready to engage and ensure guests have a memorable time on board. James is from Johannesburg, South Africa, and has been in the yachting industry for the past seven years. He has cruised extensively throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and US waters on a variety of vessels, from private to charter, including both sail and motor yachts of all sizes. A passionate lover of outdoor activities and the water, James enjoys water-skiing, wakeboarding, and e-foiling, and is a certified personal water sports instructor. He is easily recognized by his infectious smile and his constant dedication to ensuring guests have the best possible experience on board. His interests include food and cooking, music, outdoor activities, exercise, and sports. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, she began her career in interior design before being drawn to the yachting industry by its unique blend of travel, adventure, and personal growth. Since entering the industry, she has gained valuable experience aboard well-regarded yachts, consistently delivering a high standard of service. She takes pride in offering a warm, attentive approach while creating a relaxed yet refined onboard atmosphere, with a strong eye for detail that enhances the overall guest experience. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at the beach, discovering new restaurants, and capturing moments through photography and videography. Agostina is a certified personal trainer with previous experience on cruise ships before transitioning into the yachting industry. She is a dedicated and detail-oriented professional, taking pride in delivering exceptional guest experiences. An active and energetic individual, she enjoys spending time in nature, traveling, and practicing sports in her free time. Agostina has a true passion for the sea, beautiful sunsets, and good food Sally grew up in Denmark and spent the last eight years living in Copenhagen, where she completed a Master’s degree in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies before working as a UX designer. This year, she decided to swap city life for the yachting industry. Having grown up playing a wide variety of sports, she enjoys staying active and has developed a particular love for Pilates in recent years. When travelling, she is happiest by the ocean, whether scuba diving beneath the surface or surfing along the coastline. Sally also enjoys travelling for music festivals and is drawn to the freedom, energy, and sense of adventure they offer. One day, she hopes to own a sailing boat and explore remote corners of the world. Arend grew up in South Africa and has nearly three years of experience as a deckhand, cruising throughout the South Pacific, Caribbean, and Mediterranean. Alongside yachting, he works as a videographer and enjoys capturing life both onboard and ashore. When he is not behind the camera, he can usually be found surfing, fishing, playing golf, or exploring new destinations. One of his favourite experiences so far was in French Polynesia, where he traded drone footage with a local fisherman for fresh-caught mahi mahi, which remains the best ceviche he has ever tasted. Justin is originally from South Africa and has spent the past six years building a successful career in the yachting industry. Known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and passion for life at sea, he consistently delivers high standards and contributes positively to every team. Outside of yachting, Justin enjoys an active lifestyle, with interests including Formula 1, golf, padel, and drone photography and videography. He also values time spent working with wildlife in the bush when back home, reconnecting with nature. Positive, adaptable, and team-oriented, Justin is committed to continuous growth and creating exceptional experiences for guests and crew. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Sian comes from a seafaring family and has always felt most at home on the water. With several successful seasons on private and charter yachts, she brings polished service and a genuine passion for hospitality, creating memorable moments for every guest. Outside of yachting, Sian stays active through Pilates, yoga, trail running, and scuba diving. Naturally social and always smiling, her calm nature and positive energy help create the warm, welcoming atmosphere that MY Sairu is known for.
