Together, Captain Arthur and Chef Shawna Scarr are known for their seamless teamwork, warm hospitality, and love of life on the water. With over five years living aboard and hosting private charters and events in Kemah, Texas, they bring southern hospitality, energy, and joy to every voyage. Their shared passion for and expertise in sailing, snorkeling, fishing, and water sports create a dynamic, adventure-filled atmosphere, while their personalized itineraries highlight the natural beauty and hidden gems of the Virgin Islands.
Captain Arthur Scarr brings seasoned leadership and calm confidence to every voyage aboard Shangri-La. A USCG-licensed 100 Ton Captain with TWIC and medical certifications, Arthur draws on a 30-year career as a Senior Telecom Engineer known for innovation and precision. For the past five years, he and Chef Shawna have lived aboard their Lagoon 400, SV Imagine, cruising the Texas Gulf Coast, leading boat parades, and offering private charters. His technical expertise, local knowledge, and approachable style ensure every guest feels safe, relaxed, and in capable hands.
Chef Shawna Scarr pairs culinary creativity with a background in science and seamanship. A licensed 100-ton Captain and former physicist, Shawna brings precision, adaptability, and a passion for hospitality to every meal aboard Shangri-La. The trip was a dream! We loved everything about it and every moment. Captain Arthur and Shawna are fabulous hosts - kind, warm, welcoming. Shangri La is a beautiful and super comfortable boat. Every meal was amazing, delicious and beautifully presented. We were in awe of what Shawna and Captain Arthur created in the boats kitchen!
We had so much fun on our five day trip - karaoke night, lots of sun and swimming. We went to White Bay, Bitter End, Long Bay, Mahoe Bay, and the Great Harbour - all fantastic! But our favourite was Jost Van Dyke - loved Soggy Dollar and Foxy's!
We could not have asked for more. Thank you so much Captain Art & Shawna for making my birthday and anniversary celebration so perfect - we will be back!
April 2026 - Friendships Have Been Created on This Beautiful Trip with Unforgettable Memories
This was truly a special experience for our first time on a charter vacation in the BVI. The dynamic duo, Captain Arthur & Shawna exceeded all of our dream expectations from the welcome to all of our stops and delicious meals.
Leverick Bay with Michael Beans show to Soggy Dollar at Jost Van Dyke and swimming in the beautiful Caribbean water was amazing!! A special evening of karaoke where Captain Arthur shared his hidden talent with us kicked off a memorable evening. Chef Shawna outdid herself with a great triple unforgettable celebration from birthdays to a 40th wedding anniversary.

January 2026- Peaceful and Happy Vacation!
The weather, the food, the boat, our Captain Arthur, and Shawna were all perfect! We were able to visit almost all the islands in the BVI, all the while totally relaxing.

We were amazingly well looked after and really pampered. We learned so much from such an entrepreneurial couple who really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Shawna impressed us with all her cooking skills and creativity, but not only cooking, her sailing knowledge as well. So just to round up, they excel at what they do, and as a passenger, you're their priority. We wish them all the best!

Big thanks to Art & Shawna on making this an absolutely magical and unforgettable family vacation. Shawna, your meals were delicious and the passion you both pour into the boat and your guests is so appreciated. Thank you for the most amazing week together.
Some of our favorite places were karaoke at Foxy's, lime out at St John. Corona Island just relaxing and spending time together as a family. Watching the boys experience things for the first time was a highlight.

December 2025 - A Truly Magical Experience
This was our first visit to the BVI's via charter, and our goal was to spend quality time together as an immediate fam - we accomplished that completely! Our most memorable moments were at the quiet stops - Long Bay Cave and Sandy Spit.
Special thanks to Captain Arthur and his creative and talented partner Shawna. This duo always had our families best interest at heart, and created a truly magical experience. Their hospitality, artistic and delicious meals along the stunning views of the BVI's made this experience unforgettable.

We purposely picked this boat and this crew for such a special week.
Sean read our group perfectly From Day ONE. He has a wonderful sweet temperament for each of us. Funny and talented he takes great command of the boat our stops and the ‘sea’. Julia is beyond talented with her culinary skills. We are a family of foodies and each meal got better and better. Everyday she blew our minds from shrimp tacos, mahi nachos, key lime pie. All of it. We feel like we’ve made new friends which tells you how wonderful they are We are blessed with the memories thanks to the two of you.

Thank you for making our time sailing through the BVI so incredible! Sean, your expertise and local knowledge of the islands was invaluable. Every spot you recommended was perfect, though Clint may have some PTSD from his pirate bite at Willy T's. You kept us laughing and feeling at ease, even when we were attempting "creative" dingy entrances.
Julia, your thoughtfulness and amazing food made every meal an event and something to look forward to. Thanks for taking such good care of us and always being ready with a helpful hand and pitcher of delicious drinks!

Our dream was to someday share this with them, hoping they’d cherish this experience as much as we have. You both made sure that happened! Julia there is no way to describe your skills in the culinary arts & how you knew each day to surprise us with every meal, delicious & beautiful. Sean, your knowledge of sailing & the Indians & the goal to provide unique experiences each day was appreciated by us all!
