TYCHE is a 59-foot ocean going sloop designed by Ted Hood. Her classic lines and beautiful interior are kept in immaculate condition. The aft main cabin is full beam with 2 large closets and separate dry head. The forward guest cabin is a double bed. The yacht is perfectly suited for a family trip around New England. The captain is versed in local history & ecology and loves to provide educational commentary and storytelling which guests find engaging. TYCHE is the Greek word for prosperity or fortune, and is named for the Greek Goddess who presides over the welfare of a city. The Goddess Tyche personified chance and affluence and is associated with both good and bad fortune, mirroring the uncertainty of life.

Location Details:Boston, USA June 1 through July 10: Tyche is charter bookings from Boston. *** July 11-16: Sail Boston is happening ( https://www.sailboston.com/ ). This a major event where tall ships are coming to Boston Harbor as part of Sail250. During this time, Tyche will be available ONLY for bookings in Boston Harbor, not leaving to go anyplace else. My seasonal mooring at Waterboat Marina, off Long Wharf, is situated directly in the middle of all the action. This presents an unparralled opportunity for guests to stay aboard and have a best-in-town, front row seat for seeing the tall ships and all the other fiestivities. The boat will essentially be a floating luxry hotel suite for viewing that, and I will not want to take her off her mooring during that time. This is something truly special and if there’s a way for you to market it, that would be great. But no trips outside Boston Harbor for that time. *** July 17-August 31 Tyche is fully booked. September 1-October 12: Tyche is available for general charter bookings.

Meet our Crew
Martin Downs
Captain, chef
Martin Downs is Tyche’s captain and owner. He is thrilled to share his love of this
exceptional yacht and takes pride in giving guests an excellent experience aboard.
Since taking ownership in 2023, he has sailed her thousands of miles offshore and
in coastal New England waters. He attends to maintaining the yacht in top
condition with the same enthusiasm and care that he demonstrates on the water.
His reputation for prudent seamanship is well attested, but eclipsed by reviews of
his cooking. He’s used to being asked where he trained as a chef. The answer is,
at home in rural New Hampshire; although the time he spent living in Rome with
his wife and kids amounted to a masterclass, and he is a certified cook in the U.S.
Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Capt. Downs is a lifelong sailor—starting out “at nine weeks old, in a wicker
basket,” as his father liked to boast—whose early life revolved around racing
sailboats on the Great Lakes out of Bayview Yacht Club, in Detroit, MI. He traded
fresh for salt water 25 years ago, and fell in love with New England and the
Atlantic. His passion for the region’s nautical heritage and marine environment
hasn’t abated since.
